With each photo that you send, I am more compelled to write to you of their effects on me. Your knack for allowing moments to reveal the utterly true nature of your subject draws me into the depths of my own soul. These photos remind me of the ways in which the natural world reflects aspects of our own souls, of my own soul. There is, in the fierce angle and flight of the osprey with a fish, my own fierceness, and in the pair of goldfinches on a thistle who are in a tandem - apparently cooperative - relationship with each other a mirror of aspects of my own relationships. Thank you for these gifts of insight into the world and into myself.
Shine on,

WOW! Her work is absolutely breathtaking! Her photos, in the
Wildlife-Mammals section are some of the best I've ever seen of those
species especially the deer.
What a feast for the eyes and soul. I was just getting ready to log
off, then decided to look at Kristen's gallery... am glad I did! The
positive energy from that will make the rest of the day better!
Once again, thank you for including me in your mailing, Pamela. :-)
Love and Light... may your day's lesson with Kristen go well!

Dear Kristen, I want to drop a note to let you know
how your photos lift my spirit. Three days ago while
at my job of 17 years as the photographer for the Sax
Arts & Crafts catalog, I was called in with a HR
person from the parent company and told due to
outsourcing, etc. I no longer had a job and they
escorted me out like I was a criminal. The shock and
harshness in the manner this was handled, has left me
in a state of severe saddness. I am catching up on my
emails and opening your photos and seeing the
simpleness of life, the beauty that you capture,
warmed my heart and lifted my emotions and gave me a
feeling of wellbeing with a glimpse that somehow I
will be able to make it. Thankyou for all you do and
you are an incredible photographer. I am honored to
receive you images!

Kristen,
I really can't put my finger on what makes your pictures so special, but I could definitely tell the difference between yours and the other photographers.

Dear Kristen,
Thank you for your dedication to sharing your appreciation for Nature with all of us. We are blessed to live in an area so rich in natural beauty, and yet many of us would not take the time to appreciate this beauty if not shared through your heart and camera lenses. The many hours you spend exploring the west shore (Geneva Lake) result in photographs that help bring beauty, serenity and perspective to our local residents and visitors. From computer screens to framed prints and wall-sized canvases, your images preserve the beauty of the west shore and the surrounding areas. Nature is lucky to have you as her ambassador. We are lucky to have you as a resident and member.

Kristen's "Photos of the Day" are a welcome arrival in any email inbox. They remind us, very importantly, that there is a whole other world beyond our computer and television screens. Like a modern day Thoreau, Kristen uses the technology of her day to remind us that what really matters in life is basic and organic...and that we are nothing without the balance that nature brings to our lives. As an owner of a large Kristen Westlake print , I can also attest that her framed work was like installing a new window in our kitchen! http://gallery.kristenwestlake.com/ViewProduct.asp?misc=49&prod=219

Aloha Kristen, This is for you ; ):
"Gives us those nice bright colors
Gives us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day" - Paul Simon
That is kind of what I hear in my head when I look at the photography of Kristen Westlake. Sure, maybe her work is all digital, and the Kodachrome® film has taken a step aside, but digital enables her the flexibility to have more control, more options with images, and shoot much more. Meeting Kristen in early 2003, I knew immediately that this woman has a sensitivity and awareness of nature and life that few are able to bring to the surface. The surface that she brings them to is her photography canvas.
The first image of hers that truly caught my eye was "Tears on a Feather", since then I have had so many of her images touch my own thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I recently visited her gallery in Lake Geneva. The area itself is a quaint storybook town; however, walking into her exhibit, I felt as though I was walking into fields of life with endless vision.
Being a Graphic Designer since the 1980's, working in many design agencies in NYC, freelancing for many years (including being the head designer for a group of 7 major NYC photographers), and now designing and a Senior Art Consultant in a gallery in Maui, I have seen my share of photographers. Kristen's work is some of the highest quality photography in the subject of nature and life that I have ever seen. I have a limited edition print of "Tears on a Feather" hanging in my own collection, and look forward to more of her work, I hope you enjoy it too.

Kristen Westlake has a fantastic eye for nature photography. She can do landscapes; patterns of light, dark and colors from the forest floor; flowers; but a favorite of ours is her ability to see and capture moments in time. These can be a bee on a flower, a fawn looking up, a blackbird posturing to defend its stalk of grass, or a drop of dew sliding down a leaf.

This is an amazing professional. Take a look at her gallery..it speaks for itself! She knows how to take all of the golbedegook-talk of photography jargon and tune it down to my level (beginner) so that I could understand how to use my camera properly to capture specific lighting techniques and other important issues. I was so impressed that she efficiently and quickly found the talents I possess as an artist and expressed them to me in a way that let me know she was not touting me, yet also critiqued the technical issues that show up in my work without berating me and while also remaining encouraging.
She has taken me from beginner level, helped me explore my talents, and guided me into the realm of the expansive professional level of photography with such wonderfully detailed guidance. She is honest in her assessments of my work, while being patient with me when I come across technical difficulties with my apperture and ISO settings! She is helping me learn via helping me to follow my own intuitive process, as opposed to teaching me counter- intuitive technical things to a beginner whose attention span is next to nothing! I hope she can be my teacher for LIFE!
